The final numbers are in from this year’s Walk for Alzheimer’s.
The event, held virtually last month, raised $42,000 to support those living with dementia in Chatham-Kent and their families.
That’s a 22% increase over last year’s virtual walk.
The organization set a goal of $50,000, but officials say even without reaching that mark they are humbled and grateful for an increase in funds during such challenging times.
Fund development Coordinator Joel Emery says one of the new features this year was the Forget-Me-Not Scavenger Hunt that had participants exploring walking trails around Chatham.
“This new event was in support of the virtual walk, allowing ASCK to offer something that embodied the spirit of in-person walks which have been deeply missed during the pandemic,” Emery says. “It also attracted new participants to ASCK which is always a goal every year.”
The local Alzheimer Society supports thousands of clients with a variety of programs, including in-home respite, behavior supports, and day programs in Chatham and Wallaceburg.
