With a two-year grant coming to an end later this summer, officials with the Wallaceburg Adult Activity Centre are making a fresh start in a post-COVID world.

In 2022, the organization was given a $136,400 Resilient Communities Grant, which has allowed the Adult Activity Centre’s board to undergo governance training to better recover and reposition itself in the wake of the pandemic

A new program assistant was hired to re-establish pre-COVID activities and programs that were previously run by volunteers.

Officials say the funding also allowed the centre to offer more than 20 regular weekly programs, multiple monthly or periodic programming and with their support, and expand its membership from under 100 to nearly 400.

“This support has been crucial in helping us fulfill the objectives of the Wallaceburg Adult Activity Centre, benefiting our members and the community at large,” said Board Chair Colin Rigby. “Our activities, events, and services are now back in full swing, providing a vital social and recreational outlet for our members.”

Since its inception in 1975, the Wallaceburg Adult Activity Centre has promote social, emotional, and cognitive learning, as well as physical health and well-being, for adults 45 years of age and older in Wallaceburg and the surrounding area.
