Wallaceburg Event Needs Leader

As preparations are underway for Chatham’s Canada Day celebrations, there’s some uncertainty about Wallaceburg’s event.

Former Wallaceburg Lions President Leesa Ervin says she helped organize it last year, but the club has since folded, leaving no organizer for Wallaceburg’s Canada Day event.

She’s reached out to some local organizations to see if they’re interested in taking it over.

“We have sent a formal letter to the BIA and the Chamber of Commerce of Wallaceburg to see if they could pick it up, or what they want to do. Some paperwork has to be done now so we can get some money from the government and then we get some logos and flags. There was a lot of sponsorships we had to take care of because we wanted it to be free for the children,” says Ervin. “I don’t mind heading it up because I have the experience and notes from last year.  I don’t think it would be a very difficult task as long as everything is done like right now, January/February, and everything is booked.”

Ervin says it takes month of planning and about $20,000 to hold the event.
