Work is underway on the next phase of redevelopment for Wallaceburg’s hospital.

Chatham-Kent Health Alliance CEO Adam Topp says block schematics were submitted to the Ministry of Health and have been approved, paving the way for the detailed planning stage of the multi-million dollar project.

According to Topp, the work includes floor plans and layouts of individual rooms, looking for the optimal facility layout and detailed design.

Following meetings with hospital leadership, patient advisors, staff, and community leaders, it is expected the detailed plan will be ready to submit to the province in the spring.

The full cost of the revitalization project is estimated at $41 million, with 10 per cent of construction costs to be raised locally. The Municipality of Chatham-Kent also committed $4.5 million to the redevelopment during its 2023 budget process.
