After years of delays and speculation, a housing development in Wallaceburg is finally moving forward.
Private development group Trident Builders held an open house over the weekend to reintroduce its plans for the former W.T. Laing school property at the intersection of Elizabeth and Lisgar Streets.
The school closed in 2001, the building was demolished in 2010, and the land has sat vacant ever since.
Trident Builders originally laid out plans for a new subdivision in 2022, but ran into significant issues with infrastructure in the area.
Now, officials have unveiled its new plans for the “Summerheaven” development including 32 semi-detached homes, each with a private basement suite for multi-generational living or rental incomes.
Groundbreaking is set to take place next month with completion expected by June, 2027.
