Walpole Island CEO James Jenkins spoke to CKXS recently about the changes that have been instituted around water travel and the island. Jenkins explains.

“Beginning June 1st this year pleasure crafts that wish to use the waterways; either navigating through (other than the Snye and the St. Clair River) or anchoring require a pleasure craft license that’s for sale from the First Nation.”

The cost of the license is 1 hundred dollars per vessel. You can purchase the licenses at their governance building on Walpole Island, Bkejwanong  Gas, Chematogen Trailer Park & Campgrounds, Willow Beach Trading Post and Gary’s Taxidermy.

Speed limits are also now being enforced on Walpole Island waterways so please familiarize yourself with the restrictions prior to heading out.
