On the heels of a series of arrests last week, officials with Walpole Island First Nation want to address the community’s ongoing war on drugs.

Five people from Wallaceburg, Chatham, Windsor, and St Clair Township were taken into custody last week following traffic stops and subsequent search warrants. The accused have all been charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.

A state of emergency and drug epidemic were declared by the Walpole Island Band Council in 2021.

The first in a series of community meetings will be held Thursday, February 22 at the Walpole Island Spots Complex, starting at 5pm.

Officials say as a community, it is important to remain vigilant, and anyone who has information about suspected illegal drug activity is urged to contact police.
