Walpole Island First Nations Council continues to update the community with daily video messages on social media.
Council member Steve Tooshkenig says the Chief and council are discussing additional measures to protect the community.
This includes limiting non-residents and non-essential traffic on Walpole Island.
“Many community members have expressed their concern about non-resident traffic and non-essential traffic visitors to the community,” explained Tooshkenig on Tuesday’s video update. “Chief and council had a teleconference to discuss additional measures to protect our community and will be implementing measures in the coming days to limit non-residents and non-essential traffic into our community of Bkejwanong.”
All events and occasions on Walpole Island are also postponed until further notice, including Chief and council nominations.
Tooshkenig says more details are expected after the Emergency Operations Control Group has a chance to implement proper safety protocols.
There are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Walpole Island at this time.
“Our hearts and our thoughts go out to our neighbouring communities,” added Tooshkenig. “We wish a speedy recovery to all those affected.”
