Walpole Island has increased its own restrictions to Black-Lockdown as the First Nations community’s COVID numbers continue to rise.
As of the last update on Thursday, there were 17 active cases in the First Nations community.
The increased measures mean elementary students will be shifted to remote learning, the Bkejwanong Children’s Centre will suspend service, and monitored gatherings will no longer be permitted.
Officials say WIFN buildings already have measures in place to prevent close contact between employees, and the Lockdown status won’t have a direct impact on staff activities.
Retail outlets will continue to operate as normal, as officials say it hasn’t been identified as a transmission concern as long as proper safety protocols are being followed.
