Walpole Island First Nation has locked down all of its programs over COVID concerns.

Director of Operations James Jenkins issued a notice over the weekend, saying that in order to achieve a baseline of infection status in the workplace, all programs will close immediately with the expectation that staff obtain a COVID-19 test.

Staff have been asked to work from home and not to come into the First Nation’s office without written approval for the next two weeks.

There are currently two positive cases of COVID-19 in the community.

Officials say with rising COVID cases across Ontario, residents are reminded to restrict contact to household members as much as possible, wear masks, and wash hands frequently when in public.
