The provincial government is providing financial aid to a local community and a local non-profit facility that have faced ongoing challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Monte McNaughton, the MPP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex, announced on Monday that the province will invest $250,000 into Walpole Island First Nation and another $50,000 in to the Wallaceburg and District Museum through the Community Building Fund.
“COVID-19 has created severe challenges for not-for-profits who do important work to keep the heartbeat of our community strong,” McNaughton said in a news release. “This is why our government is taking steps to ensure they have the support they need to continue delivering services to all of us.”
McNaughton said the initiative will see almost more than $46 million invested in 648 organizations across the province.
The funding will be used for essential expenditures, such as staff salaries, fixed operational costs, equipment costs, programs, and services. The funding will also go towards towards the cost of adapting to public health measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“These grants will help non-profit organizations across Ontario sustain operations– providing funding so they can adapt to the pressures of the pandemic and continue to deliver programming that is critical to the economic and social well-being of communities across the province,” said Lisa MacLeod, Minister of of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries.
