Walpole Schools To Re-Open On February 16

Not all local students are heading back to the classroom next week.

The Director of Lifelong Learning on Walpole Island says the elementary school, immersion program, and child care centre will re-open after Family Day.

“In lieu of the recent progress in reducing the number of active COVID-19 cases in Walpole Island and the surrounding areas, the re-opening of Bkejwanong Kinomaagewgamig, the Anishinaabemowin Kinomaagewgamig program, and the Bkejwanong Child Care Centre will be on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 for in-person learning and child care,” Dr. Cathy Martin writes in a note to parents.

“We would like to thank everyone for doing their part in heling control the spread of the COVID-19 virus by practicing good hygiene, social distancing, and using protective mouth and nose coverings. We also commend our families for doing their best with the challenges of remote learning.”

The First Nations community, along with the rest of Ontario, has been under lockdown for the last few weeks trying to lower its COVID cases.

Schools within the Lambton Kent and St Clair Catholic District School Boards will be back for face-to-face learning on Monday, February 8th.
