A Chatham man is facing several charges after police responded to a break-and-enter in progress.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers were called to the break-in at Al’s Lawn and Garden on Richmond Street on Sunday at around 10:45 p.m., while the thief was being monitored live on surveillance camera.
When police arrived, officers contained the area and spotted a man riding away on a bicycle while carrying two commercial leaf blowers.
Officers attempted to stop the man and after a brief chase, he was arrested. It was also learned that the man was wanted on multiple outstanding warrants.
The 41-year-old man is now charged with break-and-enter to commit mischief, break-and-enter to commit theft, possession of stolen property under $5,000, and possession of break-in tools.
The accused was taken to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing.
