The watchful eye of a concerned citizen lead police to a man they’d already been searching for.
Shortly after 4 o’clock Tuesday morning, authorities received a tip about a car stopped for half an hour at a traffic light at the corner of Wellington Street West and Fifth Street in downtown Chatham.
Officers arrived and found the driver asleep behind the wheel with his foot on the brake and the vehicle still in drive. The man was arrested for impaired driving and taken to police headquarters for more tests.
Authorities discovered the accused was already wanted on an outstanding warrant relating to an assault invitation from January, 2023. A search of the accused also turned up suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine.
The list of charges against the 53-year-old also include assault and two counts of drug possession. He was released with conditions and a date in court next month.
