Warming Centres To Open When Temperatures Drop

Hope Haven on Wellington Street West in Chatham.

With temperatures becoming colder heading into the winter months, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent will be offering an overnight warming shelter for those looking to escape the weather.

In the event that temperatures fall to -5 C or below for a sustained period of time, Chatham Hope Haven on Wellington Street West will offer its services as an overnight warming centre. The shelter will also keep the upstairs chapel light on to signal to the community that the facility is open beyond regular hours.

In addition, municipal offices in Blenheim, Chatham, Ridgetown, Tilbury, and Wallaceburg will offer space for people to stop in, sit, and warm up during regular business hours. The Community Human Services Building in Chatham will offer the same service in the main office lobby.

Anyone experiencing homelessness and those needing transportation to the warming shelter are encouraged to contact the Homeless Response Line at 519-354-6628.
