Organizers are encouraging everyone to bundle up for those in need and take part in the Coldest Night of the Year in Chatham-Kent.
The eighth annual fundraiser in support of the non-profit group NeighbourLink CK is set to take place on February 24 in Chatham, beginning at 55 Croyden St.
NeighbourLink represents a network of churches in Chatham-Kent partnered together to provide practical help to those in need by linking them to supportive volunteers or existing services.
Al Baker, the managing director of NeighbourLink, said the goal each year of the fundraiser is to bring in $60,000.
“We’ve hit it the last few years and we’re confident we’re going to hit it this year,” he said. “But now’s not the time to be slowing down.”
So far, 160 people and 30 teams have registered to take part, raising just shy of $40,000.
The Coldest Night of the Year is a national event aimed at supporting local charities that serve people experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness.
