Upcoming rehabilitation work is expected to restrict access to the Public Utilities Commission building in Chatham.
Officials with the Municipality of Chatham-Kent say essential maintenance and construction on the Chatham Water Treatment Plant at 325 Grand Avenue East will force the closure of the driveway and access road to the PUC Office (McGeorge Building).
The closure is required to safely complete excavation work on a buried water valve chamber located beneath the roadway. Safety fencing will be installed around the area to protect workers and the public.
During the project, the pedestrian walkway and trail in the area will remain open, and access to the homeless encampment will be maintained.
Construction is expected to take place from January 26 to February 6. Final restoration work, including topsoil replacement, seeding, and asphalt repairs, will be completed in the spring.
