Local water activists are getting impatient with the Ford Government’s promise of a full health hazard investigation into contaminated wells in Dover and North Kent.

Water Wells First spokesman Kevin Jakubec displays contaminated water from eight properties around the North Kent Wind project site.

In a news release issued yesterday, Water Wells First spokesman Kevin Jakubec says members were in Toronto this week to deliver samples of sediment from area wells to the province’s Chief Medical Officer.

Last month, the province directed Dr David Williams to begin reviewing data and past collections to determine the cause, and gather impact statements from affected families.

Since then, Jakubec says only one local family has been contacted, by email.

“The MOECC data is critically flawed and can not be used solely or relied upon by Chatham- Kent’s Medical Officer Dr Colby to state whether any health risks are present or not,” Jakubec says in a news release.

“It was fully documented during North Kent Wind farm’s construction that both the MOECC staff and the staff working for AECOM-an engineering firm working on behalf of Samsung and Pattern Energy- the majority shareholders of North Kent Wind repeatedly refused to collect sediments from wells reporting interference despite their staff being photographed holding samples of the sediment pollutant in their hands.”

Water Wells officials say the PC government’s slow response to investigate the issue has angered many Dover and Chatham township families, and should be of concern to everyone in the province.
