Charges have been laid after a weapon-carrying man caused a disturbance at a downtown Chatham business.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to a report of a suspicious person on King Street West at around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The man was reportedly causing issues at a local business where he had been asked to leave on multiple previous occasions.
During the incident, the man was also carrying a metal pipe or a wrench, and was later seen pulling a knife out of his backpack before putting it back.
Officers located and arrested a suspect nearby without incident.
A 30-year-old Chatham man is now charged with mischief and criminal harassment. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
