Well Water Concerns Aired

Close to 300 people packed Country View Golf Course to voice concerns about the safety of groundwater. water wells first meeting

The group Water Wells First says construction of wind turbines causes vibrations that have resulted in increased sediment and contamination of wells.

Spokesman Kevin Jakubec says they are hoping to speak at this month’s council meeting to see what, if anything, the municipality can do to help.

“If they would put in a bylaw saying that they don’t want vibrations in the aquifer, and they set some peak particle velocity thresholds,” Jakubec says. “If they would ask for a standard to be used, that would go a long, long way in trying to get better regulation and control on this problem. As you see now, it’s uncontrolled.”

Jakubec has filed an appeal of the North Kent Wind 1 project, with a preliminary hearing date set for later this month.
