The West Nile virus has once again been detected in Chatham-Kent.

CK Public Health said it has received laboratory confirmation that mosquitoes collected from a trap in Dresden on September 3 have tested positive for the Virus.

While this is the first positive mosquito pool from this trap, the health unit reported in August that the West Nile virus had been detected in traps located in Tilbury, Chatham, and Ridgetown.

No human cases of the virus have been reported.

The health unit encourages everyone to protect themselves from mosquito bites by using insect repellent containing DEET, as well as wearing light-coloured clothing, long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and socks.

All local residents are also asked to eliminate sources of standing water on their property to prevent mosquito breeding.
