In an effort to keep local residents informed about cases of about West Nile virus in Chatham-Kent, public health officials will be now posting weekly updates online.
Beginning this month, Chatham-Kent Public Health will publish weekly surveillance data detailing mosquito identification and testing results from each catch basin in the region. Bulletins will be posted each week through September.
“The additional public transparency provided by the mosquito surveillance online reporting will allow residents to stay informed on the most up-to-date data and will support public education efforts to mitigate the risk of exposure,” the health unit said in a report.
The data will include the number of mosquitoes collected per trap site, the number of West Nile virus vector species identified per trap site, and positive mosquito pools per trap each week.
Public health’s website will also provide residents with the ability to view historical data dating back to 2019.
