Wheatley Library To Re-Open After More Than A Year

For the first time since last summer’s explosion in downtown Wheatley, the town’s library branch is reopening to the public.

The Wheatley branch of the Chatham-Kent Public Library at 35 Talbot Rd. W. will open for regular service on Tuesday, October 18. This includes wifi, computer access, printing and photocopying services, as well as access to books, magazines and DVDs.

The branch location has been closed since the gas explosion on August 26, 2021, however, limited library service has been provided at the Wheatley Resource Centre since mid-October of last year.

Despite the limited services at the resource centre, over 3,700 items were circulated over the past year. As well, the Summer Reading Club has hosted six programs and had 352 attendees just this year.

During its closure, the Wheatley branch location was professionally cleaned and the outside doors were freshly painted.

The Wheatley branch will open for normal hours of operation on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
