The State of Emergency that was declared for Wheatley on June 3rd due to a gas leak reported at 15 Earie Street North since June 2nd.

Gas monitoring was carried out every 15 minutes during the time of the State of Emergency being active by CK Fire Services. Chatham Kent Fire Services personnel have been on scene the entire time.

Also on site was the Provincial Hazardous Materials Team and a private sector gas monitoring company.

No gas has been detected at the site since Friday, June 4th.

The decision to end the State of Emergency was made by the Municipality in consultation with the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry and the Solicitor General.

Utilities will be restores as the emergency and evacuation orders are terminated.

Emergency personnel will be available tomorrow to accompany residents and business owners to their properties and perform gas monitoring if requested.
