The World Health Organization has declared an end to the global COVID-19 health emergency.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus made the announcement on Friday, three years after the organic declared the coronavirus outbreak to be a public health emergency of international concern in January 2020.
However, the WHO said as the COVID-19 virus continues to evolve and spread, it still remains a global health threat, but at a lower level of concern.
Officials with the UN agency have warned that the declaration does not mark the end of the pandemic, with thousands of people still dying from the virus every week.
Since the start of the pandemic, there have been more than 765 million confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to WHO data. Nearly seven million people have died.
