The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to a report of forcible confinement involving a weapon at a residence on Queens Line, west of Bloomfield Road, in Chatham shortly before 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Residents in the immediate area were asked to shelter in place, and motorists were advised to avoid the area, before the all-clear was given several hours later.
Following an investigation, officers learned that a man armed with a gun had kidnapped and sexually assaulted an 18-year-old Chatham woman.
A 28-year-old Windsor man was arrested in connection with the incident. He has since been charged with kidnapping, pointing a firearm, uttering threats, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, failing to comply with a release order, and two counts of sexual assault.
