Woman Charged After A Pair Of Shoplifting Attempts

A local woman will answer to a judge in court next month after two attempted shoplifting incidents at a Chatham grocery store.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said the first incident took place at the Real Canadian Superstore on September 7, when a woman selected items and attempted to leave the store without paying. She was confronted by the store’s Loss Prevention officers and returned the items.

The same woman returned to the grocery store on Wednesday and once again attempted to leave the store with items that had not been paid for. She was again stopped by staff and forced to return the items.

Police officers were able to identify a suspect and a 62-year-old Chatham woman was arrested. She is now charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and will answer the charge in court in October.
