An arrest has been made after the Moraviantown First Nation band office was defrauded out of more than $600,000 over the last six years.
The Ontario Provincial Police was contacted by the Eelŭnaapéewi Lahkéewiit First Nation Police Service nearly a year ago, in February 2025, to assist with a fraud investigation at the band office.
Authorities said between October 29, 2018 and December 31, 2024, multiple cheques with a total value of over $600,000 were forged and deposited into the bank account of a former Moraviantown First Nation employee.
As a result, a 41-year-old Moraviantown woman was arrested on December 17, 2025 and charged with fraud over $5,000, using a forged document, and 14 counts of forgery. She was released from custody and will answer the charges in court in February.
