Two local nurses have come together to create a new event aimed at enhancing health care for women and babies in the Chatham-Kent community.
Strong Starts for Tiny Hearts, a 5K run, walk, and stroll, will take place on May 31 at Mud Creek Trail in Chatham.
Founded by two registered nurses in the Women and Children’s unit at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA), Shannon Verschraegen and Kristen Fife, the grassroots fundraiser is raising funds to support the purchase of vital equipment and enhanced care for women and babies.
“Every dollar raised helps ensure that local mothers are supported, and babies receive the specialized care they need to begin their lives surrounded by compassion and hope,” CKHA officials said in a news release.
Registration for the event opens at 9 a.m. with a fee of $25, however, any participant who raises more than $50 in donations will have their registration fee waived. Anyone interested in fundraising for the event can register online by clicking here.
The 5K, which is designed to be inclusive of all fitness levels, will begin at 10 a.m.
