Work remains paused at the APEC 1 site in Wheatley as crews conduct additional testing following last Wednesday’s gas release.
The two-hour release measured at 24 parts per billion in the atmosphere which is less than one-hundredth of the amount considered a safety hazard. Some smell was noticeable at the site.
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent says there has been no gas emission since the initial event Wednesday and a thorough review of the gas monitoring system confirmed no further action is required.
Work is expected to resume by the end of the week as crews are in the process of excavating around the well in preparation for driving a large conductor pipe over it.
If residents detect the smell of gas they are asked to immediately call emergency services.
