Flooding on Erie Shore Drive is going to get worse before it gets better.
Jason Wintermute with the LTVCA says fall, starting mid-September, is historically the roughest time.
“The waves build up and they’re stronger and they hit the shore with more energy, and wind events tend to be longer because they’re not thunderstorm related,” Wintermute says.
While weather patterns and wind directions are hard to predict, Wintermute says relief will only come when the lake freezes over.
But for now, residents along Erie Shore Drive remain under a state of emergency as winds and waves continue to pound the shoreline.
The LTVCA expects further flooding this afternoon and into tomorrow with wind gusts up to 65km/hr overnight.
