Would-Be Thief Caught In The Act

A Chatham man is facing several charges after police were called about a break-in in progress.

Officers responded to a Park Avenue East business shortly before 11:30 last night and say a man was seen trying to get into the building.

Surveillance footage showed the man driving into the parking lot, carrying drills, bolt cutters, wire strippers, and a flashlight. Authorities say the man could be seen using the tools to damage a vending machine and two locks.

The accused was located and arrested. However once in custody, police say the suspect urinated and defecated on the floor and bench of a holding cell.

The 31-year-old is now facing charges of driving while prohibited, possession of break-in instruments, and two counts of mischief. He’ll have to face the charges in court in May.
