As many as 40 activists are staging a protest just off Highway 40 south of Wallaceburg this morning. 
The Water Wells First protesters say they have shut down construction of a North Kent Wind turbine, with a blockade of pickup trucks.
Spokesman Kevin Jakubec says police are on scene, and construction workers have left the site.
“We have over 40 farmers here, we have tractors interlocked with pickups, Jakubec says. “We have farmers who are wearing chains, chained to tractors, we have had enough of having our lives completely ruined.”
Lee Montgomery is one of several farmers in the area who have chained themselves together to try to stop any further damage.
His own farm is next to a pair of future turbine sites, and says if construction affects his well, he won’t stand for it.
“They haven’t driven in the piles yet, but when they do I’ll sue the owner of the property, the municipality, the wind mill companies, and the provincial government.”
Seven property owners around the North Kent area now say they’ve experienced some contamination of their well, including one family whose well has completely failed, leaving them without any water source.
Chatham-Kent Police are also on scene, blocking traffic on Bush Line between Highway 40 and Prince Albert.
