Zoning Amendments Make Way For New Chatham Subdivision

Newly approved zoning changes to vacant farmland will make way for a new subdivision in northeast Chatham.

During a planning meeting on Monday, members of council voted to rezone nearly 100 acres of land that is located at the north end of Delaware Avenue and west of Idlewild Drive.

The land, which was previously zoned “Deferred Development”, can now be used for single-detached, semi-detached, and row houses.

Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff said the subdivision could bring 150 new homes to the community.

“It’s exciting. It’s symbolic of the development going on across Chatham-Kent,” he said.

Canniff said developer Cherrygrove Community Inc. will now generate a draft plan for the site, which would include details such as servicing, roads, lot layout, parkland dedication and more.

“There’s a lot of things going on behind the scenes and we’re going to see some a lot of construction soon,” the mayor said.
