A local service group is giving area residents a place to rest and reflect.
The Zonta Club of Chatham-Kent has unveiled a new Purple Bench on the property of Grand West Homeopathy on Grand Avenue West in Chatham. Part of a global initiative, the bench honours victims of domestic and family violence while encouraging conversations about prevention, support, and awareness.
“We wanted this bench to be more than just a place to sit,” said Brigitte Davis, Zonta Club member and owner of Grand West Homeopathy in a news release. “We wanted it to be a place that encourages reflection, sparks important conversations, and lets survivors know they are seen, supported, and never alone. Its location across from the hospital and at one of the city’s busiest crosswalks ensures this message reaches our community every day.”
Officials say the bench is a lasting symbol of the club’s commitment to advocacy and community leadership with a goal of increasing awareness, honouring those affected by domestic and family violence, and encouraging anyone experiencing abuse to seek help and support.
Founded in 1948, the Zonta Club of Chatham-Kent supports initiatives that advance gender equality, empower women and girls, and work to end gender-based violence while making a meaningful difference throughout the community.
