A new report out of Brock University says animal cruelty agents and investigators across the province are being stretched to the limit.
The Ontario SPCA has 90 investigators across the province, and just one full-time agent serving all of Chatham-Kent.
Inspector Brandon James says it can be a very dangerous job.
“It’s a safety issue for us . We are one of the highest trained animal cruelty investigators in the country but even that won’t prepare you for what may or may not happen. Dangers can come from anything- from people, from the traffic you’re dealing with next to that call, or the animals that you’re dealing with in that situation.”
James typically covers Oxford and Elgin County, but also travels to Chatham-Kent and other regions to lend a hand when necessary.
