Farmers are hoping for more rain as the crops have been struggling the past few weeks.
Harry Lawson, Vice President of the Kent Federation of Agriculture, says while corn seems to be doing well, other crops like soybeans are having a hard time.
He says there isn’t too much farmers can do during a drought:
“Control the weeds, because they suck up moisture. That’s about the only thing you can really do,” says Lawson. “And hope for the best and use your normal management and hope it rains, it always does, sooner or later. But we’re hoping for sooner right now.”
Lawson says though he’ll be re-planting his soybeans because of the dry weather, it’s still relatively early in the season.
