A nearby hospital foundation is looking for some help from Chatham-Kent taxpayers.

Four Counties Hospital Foundation Chair Tom Jeffery and Middlesex Health Alliance VP Steph Ouellet are requesting funding from the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

Tom Jeffery, Chair of the Four Counties Hospital Foundation says that their aging endoscopy system needs an upgrade.

“Capital purchases are not covered under long-term health care (funding) so therefore our hospital relies on our Foundation to fundraiser for equipment,” Jeffery says.

Officials say of the 146 scopes in 2016-17, roughly 37% were performed on Chatham-Kent residents, and CK residents make up nearly 42% of all visits to the Four Counties emergency department.

With that in mind, the Foundation is hoping the municipality will chip in $100,000 to help pay for the new system.

The ask will be discussed during budget deliberations next month.
