Earth Hour is this Saturday and Entegrus is encouraging everybody to turn out the lights.

From 8:30 to 9:30pm, residents are encouraged to switch off all non-essential lights to support the World Wildlife Fund’s Earth Hour initiative.

Entegrus Director of Communications Margaret Rodd says the energy savings can be significant.

“Last year, just Entegrus territory saved 2962 kilowatt hours of electricity,” Rodd says. “That’s about taking 150 residential homes off the grid for a full 24 hours, when you multiply that across the country and across the world, and it makes a really, really large impact.”

Earth hour began in 2007.
