Many area residents are struggling with their hydro bills, and Brian Horrobin is helping as many people as he can.
The First Baptist Church Pastor says he’s seen a large spike in the amount of people who’ve come to him for help with paying their hydro bills.
He says the problem is a bigger issue than you’d think,
“Not everyone that comes in for help are without work or on Ontario Works. These are working people. It may be that the type of employment they’re in is a minimum wage situation – I’m not against the amount for minimum wage – but I’m just saying that because bills have increased, their wages aren’t enough to cover them. It was at one time, but not it’s not”, says Horrobin.
Horrobin says he uses money from a benevolent fund – which is donated by his congregation – to assist those who need his help.
His story is gaining regional attention after he attended a poverty round table in Wallaceburg earlier this week.
