rick-nichollsChatham-Kent-Essex MPP Rick Nicholls is speaking out against Hydro One’s appeal to raise their rates.

Nicholls attended a recent Ontario Energy Board public meeting in Leamington.

“They tell us that they need more money for infrastructure and replacing old coals and whatnot,” Nicholls says. “I said hold on a minute, you have a CEO who is making $4.5-million, you have five other vice president who combined earn just under $11-million, and that’s all on taxpayers’ backs, and now you’re coming to the taxpayer once again and saying you’re going to pay more for your hydro rates because we need more for infrastructure.”

Nicholls says attendance at the meeting was low because it was poorly advertised.

“The number of people there in total averaged about 50-55 people, of which I estimated there were approximately 20-25% of the people there were represented by either the Ontario Energy Board, Hydro One, or Hydro One’s communications.”

The next meetings will be held in northern and eastern Ontario.
