A celebration of Indigenous culture is being held at Lambton College this week.
Thursday marks the 30th annual Pow Wow at the Cestar Group Athletics & Fitness Complex.
Organizers say the celebration of life will include dancers in full regalia, traditional arts and crafts, singing, and dancing. There will also be information booths, traditional food, intertribal songs, and other vendors.
A special exhibition on loan from the Legacy of Hope Foundation will also be available for viewing. The educational displays include Cruel and Unethical, which features examples of the mistreatment of Indigenous Peoples in Canada’s healthcare system, and Peter Henderson Bryce: A Man of Conscience, outlining Bryce’s work as the medical health officer for the then-named Department of Indian Affairs to expose the high mortality rates of First Nations children in Residential Schools due to poor conditions and tuberculosis.
Doors open to the public at 10 a.m. and the grand entry will open the cultural event at 11 a.m. with all dancers entering the dance circle for the first time. The festivities will continue until 3 p.m.
Admission to the Pow Wow is free and the public is welcome to attend.
