A fundraising campaign in support of treatment for cancer patients in Chatham-Kent has received a sizable donation.

The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Helping Hands Auxiliary has donated $10,000 to the ‘Her Fight is Our Fight’ campaign, a fundraiser created by West Kent Councillor Melissa Harrigan.

Donations to the campaign will support the purchase of a new VELA mammography chair and fund needed enhancements to the Mammography room at CKHA.

Harrigan, who announced her own cancer diagnosis in mid-December 2022, was surprised with a cheque presentation from the Helping Hands Auxiliary at the CKHA Boutique Grand Gift Shop on Wednesday.

Harrigan has temporarily stepped aside from her council duties to focus on treatment and recovery, as well as advocating for screening, early detection, and preventative health care for women.

Those interested in making a donation to the fundraiser can click here. ‘Her Fight Is Our Fight’ t-shirts are also available for purchase at the CKHA Boutique Grand. Proceeds will also support the campaign.
