Smoke from wildfires in northern Ontario is making things difficult for those with respiratory issues in Chatham-Kent.
Environment Canada has issued an air quality warning for the area, which is expected to last until Friday.
Officials say heavy smoke conditions put everyone’s health at risk, regardless of age or health status. Residents are urged to limit their time outdoors, and reschedule or cancel outdoor sports, activities, and events.
Some residents may experience mild and common symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough. More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pains or severe cough.
People more likely to be impacted by wildfire smoke, including older adults, infants and young children, those who are pregnant, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and outdoor workers, should avoid strenuous activities and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms.
