A familiar face will be adorning letters sent across Canada this year.

Canada Post recently announced its 2024 stamp lineup, focusing on truth and reconciliation, the natural world, accomplished Canadians, and more.

A stamp featuring Mary Ann Shadd Cary, an influential abolitionist and the first Black woman to publish a newspaper in North America, will be issued ahead of Black History Month. Shadd’s paper, the Provincial Freeman, issued its first edition in Windsor in 1853 and moved to Chatham in 1855, and emphasized the importance of Black self-sufficiency and integration into Canadian society.

Other special issues this year include a stamp featuring a total solar eclipse, taking place on April 8th, a series showcasing Canadian graphic novelists, and stamps raising awareness about truth and reconciliation, ahead of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30.

Officials with Canada Post say the annual stamp program showcases the people, places and moments that shape our country. The independent Stamp Advisory Committee recommends the subjects for the program and relies on thoughtful input from groups and individuals to choose subjects that are meaningful to all Canadians.
