2014-algal-bloomsWhile Ontario and Canada have a plan to combat algal blooms in Lake Erie, some are concerned that the United States won’t do their part.

At a public meeting in Chatham last week, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change announced their plan to reduce phosphorus in Lake Erie.

Madhu Malhotra Manager of Strategic Analysis, says the American side has similar plans:

“The U.S. states that are bordering lake Erie are also developing individual action plans and those plans will be rolled into one plan by the EPA,” says Malhotra. “We all ready know that the states of Michigan and Ohio have put out interim action plans.”

Malhotra says it’s in their best interest to work with us to improve the health of our nearest Great Lake.
