A local charity group has made a significant donation to support children in need in Chatham-Kent.
In celebration of National Philanthropy Day on November 15, the McGeachy Charitable Foundation has donated $300,000 to the Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent in honour of the late Lynn McGeachy Schultz, a passionate advocate for the welfare of children.
“This donation is a reflection of Lynn’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of children; she started her career at the Centre and helped to both improve and expand programs,” said Scott McGeachy of the McGeachy Charitable Foundation in a news release. “We are honoured to contribute to the capital project that will provide a modern and welcoming space for children in our community.”
The donation will go towards the foundation’s Butterfly Building Campaign for the construction of a new 55,000-square-foot facility for the treatment centre, which will be located on McNaughton Avenue West in Chatham.
“[This] support will help us create an innovative and inclusive space that will positively impact the lives of countless children and their families for years to come,” said Kevin Owen, chair of the Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation.
The new Children’s Treatment Centre building will provide additional space to reduce wait times for rehabilitation services such as speech therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and autism services. The current centre provides services to one in five children and youth in Chatham-Kent.
