A local company is Chatham-Kent’s first licensed producer of cannabis.
AgMedica BioScience, formerly AgriMed Botanicals, has been given the green light from Health Canada.
Bruce MacEachern, the company’s Director of Sales & Marketing, says they’re ready to begin cultivating medicinal marijuana.
“We’re working closely with health care professionals, such that patients who are looking for new options have the possibility of obtaining medicinal cannabis, “MacEachern says. “We will be producing high quality cannabis to provide the needs of people like that.”
The Chatham-based company plans to start cultivation at its indoor Riverview Cultivation Facility with a current annual production capacity of 6,000 kg with plans to build a second indoor facility to add an extra 40,000 kg in annual capacity.
MacEachern says the company is now looking for skilled workers.
“People who have skills in plant science, in growing, also people who are skilled in the area of sales and marketing who come with backgrounds in health sciences, finance, marketing,” he explains. “People who are self-starters and who are excited about the cannabis industry not just in the coming year, but in years to come.”
