The municipality is joining communities across the province in a homelessness count. 
The first of its kind in Canada, the enumeration event is a way to identify the level of homelessness in a community, and how to better understand the situation.
Today and tomorrow, more than 80 volunteers and staff are going out into the community to survey unsheltered residents as part of Registry Week.
Chantal Perry, Program Manager with Employment and Social Services, says the first step to ending homelessness is knowing by name who in the community is homeless, and what their specific needs are.
A dedicated phone line has also been established – anyone experiencing homelessness can call 519-351-1228 ext 2052 and fill out a survey.
