Local Duffers will have a chance to putt and chip for a great cause next month. It’s the annual Chatham-Kent Habitat for Humanity golf tournament.

Erin Walker is the Vice-chair of the June 2nd event at the Links of Kent.

“Blazin’ BBQ’s going to be there to serve lunch, and Bayside is serving drinks on a hole,” Walker says. “We have a prize per player, three hole-in-one chances to win, longest drive men’s and women’s, closest to the pin men’s and women’s, and gender-neutral closest to the mark.”

All money raised at the tournament will stay in Chatham-Kent to help more families get a fresh start in a new home.

“We’re always thinking families first,” says Executive Director Nancy McDowell. “Habitat for Humanity builds affordable hones, which we then sell at an interest free, geared-to-income mortgage to our homeowners.”

Families have to quality to receive a home, put in 500 hours of volunteer work, and help with the build. The mortgage they pay will then help fund future projects.

Habitat for Humanity is currently working on its 5th house in Chatham-Kent for a family in Pain Court.
